Chapter one – Sudden threat

A loud hiss was thrown in my direction while I pulled myself up, holding out a hand at the creature. It roared loudly, almost ear-splitting and my eyes widened. I’d be mental if I tried to take this thing on, but what other choice was there?
“Tactical word; Subterra, Snare!” I shouted as my hand glows with a brownish aura, vines tearing out of the ground to constrict the fiend’s front legs.
There was a heavy snarl that escaped its maw while the vines tore. I was caught pre-emptively and it proceeded to swing its gargantuan claw towards me.
“Shit! Defensive word; Subterra, Raise ground!” I retaliated and once again my hand was shrouded. The ground rose in front of me, but the huge creature tore through and threw me back with the debris. I quickly leapt to my feet and began to run back round the corner.
It tore through the house next to me and tripped itself up, giving me no choice but to dive forward in order to avoid everything. But some glass had torn through the scaling just over my eye, blood started to flow around the crevice. I rolled forward to get back on my feet and proceeded to run.
“This thing is mental…” I exclaimed to myself while panting, looking behind at the creature that seemed stuck in debris. It was my only chance to get out of the area.

Suddenly a smaller but faster monster comes sprinting out from the darkness, screaming loudly as it jumped up at me. I panicked as it took me down, swinging my arms and hitting it which only angered it to roar in my face.
“Yeah, fuck this.” I said, bringing my legs inwards to place my feet on its chest, tensing my legs and hurling the beast off in a single, savage moment. I rose back up again and began to attack. The sounds of vicious connections rented the air around me. I swung my elbow and struck its jaw, following with; “Power Word; Electricity, Discharge Strike!” I chanted while throwing my fist forwards. It landed on its throat and the electricity surged through the monster and caused it to fly from the electrical kick. The monster was then either knocked out or dead.
I started to run off again but the markings on my scales were still not glowing. I started to feel dizzy too, due to the blood from my deep cut carrying on to pour out. I continued to walk off in search for somewhere to hide. I found an empty den to hide in, but I feel my current whereabouts could be easily traced…

Eventually I passed out due to exertion of my energy.

At the precise time of 04:00, something was lurking around outside the den I was in. Whatever it was, was in some kind of struggle or ruckus with something, but my markings were shining and outside remained pitch black.
Just because my markings were glowing however does not exclude an imminent threat. I looked down curiously but it was too dark to make anything out, so I did the clever thing and started a small fire outside of the den for light. “Power Word; Fire, Ring.” I quietly recited as a dim light filled the area and I again peeked out. It was a man, he appeared to be looking for someone; whether or not that was me, I don’t know…
“Hmmn?” He squeaked while looking at the flames. The fire was just outside of my den, which wasn’t the smart thing on my behalf… The man held out a shrouded hand and drew the fire in, extinguishing it in his palm. I crawled further into the den, staring out. He walked over, the footsteps crunching the grass beneath him while he embraced the scent of the left-over smoke. “Come out, Scythe. Only a Draconian could do magic like that.” He spoke in a familiar voice.
“Rhynn? Is that you?” I spoke confidently, hearing a voice I remembered and slowly picked myself up to walk just outside.
“Report, what’s going on here? You seem to be in a bit of pickle… have you gotten rusty since you ran off?” Rhynn questioned spitefully. It seems that there was something that he was holding against me, but I knew what he meant. I held my head low and off to the right side, staring at the charred grass.
“I.. I don’t know, Rhynn. Also, I had to escape for the good of ever—“ I attempted to explain before getting interrupted.

“For the good of whom? Yourself and the war-band you left behind, the same war-band that died from the Drakkensboad massacre that we had to hold back? It’s in your best interest to know this, Scythe; you’re welcome to come back but you have some proving to do should you have the balls to face it. We won the war that took place, but at a large cost. We need as much as we can get to re-establish our home. Also, ‘I don’t know’ doesn’t quite cut it. Are you in or out, dragon?” Rhynn explained angrily. It seems that I may have left more of a responsibility than I had imagined. His glare was that strong that I was unable to feel at ease.
“You have my apologies, Rhynn… It was not my intention have others killed in my cowardice, especially not my own war-band and to dishonour Drakkensboad. I’ll come back with you and it is up to you and Drakkensboad to decide what happens from there. As for this place, I’ve been working here to uncover what has happened, but I haven’t been on the job for too long so my theories are just blurs in logic.” I tried to explain to the human figure. He just shrugged and turned around as if he expected me to follow.
“It’s not me you should be apologising to, Warmaster Kirizama; if they’re still willing to call you ‘Warmaster’. However, you have my respects and acceptance. Do what you did again though, I won’t hesitate to turn you inside-out with a singular spell, got it?” He accepted and threatened. I simply nodded and started to follow while thinking to myself.
